Weekend Course
Training for the Treatment of Victims of Crime, War, Accident, Rape, Abuse
This training course aims to provide participants with practical trauma treatment strategies and techniques drawn and integrated from emergent empirically based treatments and frameworks. The post traumatic stress psychotherapies practised will be: Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Cognitive Interweave (EMDR-C). There will also be practise in CPT EMDR adjunctive theraputic experiential procedures. These include Narrative Perspectives, Systemic Art Fundamentals, the Psychodramatic techniques of Active Role Analysis and intra-psychic applications. Creating standards of safety for treatment will be a major theme. The majority of time will be spent in experiential work and skills acquisition. Therefore, participants will be directed to research that is important to the detection and treatment of trauma.
Interactive trauma themes including complex PTSD will be presented for discussion and practice during the training program. These include the impact of shame and guilt, physical injury, prior childhood trauma or abuse, family of origin impasse, personality factors, “recovery-readiness”, loss-grief, disguised trauma symptoms, alienation, powerlessness, fear and anger.
It is also anticipated that course members will have the opportunity to expand their present skills base within a trauma treatment context. The therapist roles and relationship building skills will be paramount in this process.
